Description

The 18th Avenue Artists’ Compound is an independent artist-run center
located in Cubao, Quezon City. Organized by Big Sky Mind Artists’ Projects
Foundation, the Compound offers young artists space to create and develop
their work amidst an environment of community, camaraderie and professional
support.

Based in a warehouse complex, the Compound specifically addresses the need
of young artists for working spaces, access to information and
representation.

A fresh and alternative site, it gathers artists, students, curators,
writers, researchers, other members of the art community and the general
public in a place dedicated to the support of Filipino contemporary art.

Artists’ Studios - three working studios for individual artists are currently available

other reference material.

equipment.

Social and artistic disciplines

The Compound’s Artist-in-Residency Program grants one-year studio
residencies to young Filipino visual artists. This year’s residency period
is from July 2003-June 2004. Resident artists are provided with subsidized
working spaces and access to the Compound facilities.

In July 2003, the Compound will have its first quarterly Open House,
providing an occasion for the resident artists to present their work to the
public. Studio visits, artist talks and other activities will be held during
this period.

The Compound also plans to offer video documentation services, workshops and
educational programs and portfolio management for artists.


Other structures/organisations resident on the site

The Compound is shared with a video production company, Furball inc.


Financial support

Big Sky Mind Artists’ Projects Foundation does not receive financial support from any government or institution. Income is generated from studio rentals and private donations.
