Description
In memory of the famous indian actor and theater director Prithviraj Kapoor (19 ? /1972) and his popular travelling theater company the Prithvi Theatres, in 1975, his son Shashi Kapoor and daughter-in-law Jennifer Kapoor decided to buy a land and set up a Trust with the intention of building a theatre to promote the performing arts.
The Shri Prithviraj Kapoor memorial Trust & research foundation was set up by Prithviraj’descendants in order to achieve the following aims :
to build a theatre to promote professional Hindi theatre primarily, with all technical facilities available
subsidising and promoting aspiring and deserving stage artists, technicians, researchers etc.
managing a theatre of international standards - hosting and conducting workshops
providing rehearsal and workshop spaces *
creating a theatre resource center and research library *
providing medical and educational assistance to theatre workers and their children
(* the space for rehearsal s and library are under construction.)

The Prithvi Theatre is a completely non-profit entity depending on the patronage of individuals and companies committed to the development of the performing and fine arts. Since its inception it is different sponsors who have enabled the theatre to grow and expand its activities.
