Description
Para-Site is a non-profit making art space run by a group of independent artists in Hong Kong and supported by the Hong Kong Arts development Council. Founded by seven Hongkong artists in 1996, Para/Site was originally a response to the limitation of conventional exhibition space in Hongkong. In a derelict shop space in Kennedy Town, Para-Site had appeared shortly for a series of 3 site-specific exhibitions. In 1997, it moved to the present location, a two-storey shop space around 150 m sq., in Sheung Wan. Mainly supported by its Patron List, other fundraising projects and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Para/Site is the most sustaining artist-run space in Hong Kong. In 1998, its branch space, Para/Site Central, was opened inside Hanart TZ Gallery, a commercial gallery, in Central. However it is “ hosted ” by a commercial gallery, it is curated and managed independently by Para-Site. It is the smallest exhibition space in Hong Kong. It aims at promoting quality works by local artists
