Description

In 1995, troubadour Sotigui Kouyaté from Burkina Faso left a large family courtyard to his children. His three sons, Dani, Hassane, and Pape Kouyaté who are modern troubadours themselves, although they were raised as pupils of the “white school,†wanted to convert this courtyard - the traditional nerve centre of the family, a place for exchanging, education, and culture - into a cultural exchange arena that would be open to the whole neighbourhood, to the town, to other African countries, and to the whole world. Thus “Djéliya†came into being.
This space, open to the whole world, sees itself as an exchange and meeting place in the Diaradougou district, one of the oldest popular quarters of Bobo-Dioulasso. It sees itself as a place for training, for information, for creation, and for dissemination, a place whose social importance and economic contribution remain the main building blocks in its development and running.
